Dear Friends and Family of the Earthchild Project

We hope you are all well and enjoying the spirit and excitement of the world cup.

There has been an extra long school holiday and so the Grade 1, 2 and 3 learners from Sakumlandela were especially enthusiastic to join our holiday programme.  Together with a team of amazing volunteers and a group of Grade 7 girls who helped translate and facilitate, the little ones were kept busy with yoga, drama, gardening and arts & crafts.  Snacks and yummy lunches were prepared each day by three lovely Grade 12 ladies who attend the High School next door.  On Friday we ended with an epic soccer tournament and a visit from the holiday programme's generous sponsor, Ilan Kaplan of Arbitrage.  Our Earthchild Heroes for the month are Ilan, Tammy, Mandy, all the volunteers and the Grade 7 and 12 ladies for helping to make the programme such a success - THANK YOU!

Dearest Friends and Family of the Earthchild Project

We hope that you are well and that your 2010 journey has been smooth so far.  After a good start to the year our little team has been like busy little worker bees, doing what we do best – spreading the Earthchild sweetness.

We’ve been spending some good quality time with our earthworm friends – harvesting compost and worm ‘tea’, running workshops and getting the worm farming business up and running.  After the success of our classroom worm farm programme last year, we’ve been offering it to more schools and have already done two workshops and set ups this year; one with the eco committee at St Cyprians and one at Phyllis Jowell Primary.  It’s great to see how the children’s initial squeamishness quickly turns to interest, lots of questions and lots of giggles as they familiarize themselves with their 1000 new classroom ‘pets’.  If anyone would like a worm farm for your home, business or classroom please see attached flyers for more information.

Dear Friends and Family of the Earthchild Project

Although it feels like we’re already well into the year, we’d like to wish you all a very happy new year.  Perhaps it’s the buzz and excitement in the 2010 air, but there has been an incredible flow this year and already much has happened in the short six weeks since we’ve been back at school.

Our theme for the first term has been ‘Vision Boards’ and we’ve been sharing with the children, teachers and volunteers all about the ‘law of attraction’ and the power of positive thinking.  Each of our after school clubs created beautiful Vision Boards, where together they set goals for their clubs for 2010.

Dear Friends and Family of the Earthchild Project

We hope this letter finds you well.

August and September have been two crazy, busy, wonderful months for Earthchild Project.  During the first three weeks of September we launched the ‘Reach Out’ campaign at Sakumlandela in Khayelitsha.  Through special assemblies, classroom lessons, the earthchild pinboard and extra murals, learners were inspired to reach out and make a difference to themselves, their environment and the world.

Dearest Family and Friends of the Earthchild Project

We hope you’re all well, warm and happy.

Firstly, we’d like to thank all those who supported us at the ‘Earthchild’ documentary screening at the Labia Cinema in June.  The theatre was jam packed, Noks and the kids performed like super stars, and the response to the film was overwhelmingly positive.  The film was very powerful - it made the audience laugh, cry, feel inspired and full of hope.  We’d like to thank both Lesedi and Mesa Films for making such a beautiful and moving documentary.  www.mesafilms.co.za

During the first week of school holidays we ran a holiday programme for 120 children at Sakumlandela in Khayelitsha.  Each day began with an hour of yoga and meditation followed by all sorts of fun activities and a yummy lunch.  With the support of a group of amazing volunteers we had drama, dancing, origami, art, story telling, gardening, worm farming and more!  The final day ended with a concert, with performances by the drama group, sock puppeteers, music and the ‘Earthchild’ documentary.  The children, volunteers and Earthchild team all left with big smiles and beautiful memories - enriched by the experience of a week of good clean, holistic fun and learning.  A very big THANK YOU to all the amazing and committed volunteers – we couldn’t have done it without you!
